Belvianes and Cavirac’s names may have a Gallo-Roman origin, related to a Roman family called “Balbius”. The history of these two villages is rather obscure. We know that Belvianes and Cavirac came under the control of the King of France at the end of the 14th century

A regional train runs twice daily from nearby Quillan and there is also a regular bus service to Carcassonne and Perpignan.

Quillan located on the banks of the river Aude, is a small and charming town with all amenities including a municipal swimming pool/gym and cinema, local shops resturants and supermarkets, there is a twice weekly market. Quillan can serve as a base for exploring the Pyrenees along with the captivating castles of the Cathars. The town has its own rather unusual castle built in the 1280’s and now largely ruins.

Carcassonne is aprox 50 minutes away and is the only fortified town in Europe that is still inhabited.
